Eastwick Crescent

Situated in Hertfordshire and located just inside the M25, our Eastwick Crescent project comprises a complete rebuild of an existing single storey residential property. The brief for this project was comprehensive and involved widespread change. The existing building had a central circulation space that involved awkward transitions from one room to another. The plan in general was a rabbit’s warren of individual rooms with an overly complex layout resulting in poorly proportioned spaces. The thermal performance of the building was very poor, creating cold spots in key areas of the building. At the beginning of the design stage we started off with the thought process of reuse and adaptation however, it became clear that the level of changes required and the amount of physical material left over after these changes made reuse completely unviable. We decided to start looking at rebuilding as an option. One of the main reasons we decided to rebuild the entire property was the opportunity to create a building with much higher quality construction methods that result in a more thermal efficient house overall. This offsets the initial outlay by allowing the client to drastically reduce their energy consumption over the building lifetime. This is not a decision we took lightly but for this project it made sense in numerous ways. The new home has an uncomplicated layout formed with modern methods of construction resulting in extremely low energy consumption.
